Fine Art Self-Portraiture Exploring Identity, Emotion & Storytelling

I began creating self-portraits in high school while learning to use an SLR camera. At the time, the process was influenced by the insecurities of adolescence and a curiosity about identity, self-image, and the expectations placed on us by society. In college, I continued exploring self-portraiture as a creative practice, but it wasn't until late 2009 that I became more intentional, beginning a year-long project of creating 52 weekly self-portraits and in-between days series.

For me, self-portraiture has never been about creating images for others—it has been a way to better understand myself. A colleague once shared that self-portraits are not made for an audience, but for the person behind the camera, and that perspective has stayed with me. This work has become a form of reflection, self-awareness, and exploration, allowing me to examine identity, vulnerability, transformation, and the human experience.
